Helium - Visual Arts

The prompt that I reviewed is "The ideals of Romantic Movement". I learned that many aspects of the Romantic Movement are still seen today. I also learned that Romantic Movement is a term that applies to the art and literature in which was produced in Europe. The author used well thought out strategies to evaluate and produce writing for the best essays. For the lesser essays, authors seemed to make lots of errors and did not keep the readers excited or on the edge. I would approach this prompt in a very careful and respectful way if I had to write an essay in response. I would definately annouce the errors respectfully, and discuss more on the article as far as what couldve made the article "Jump" more.

The eating habits of octopuses (luis amurrio)

The prompt i choose was on the eating habits of octopuses which is a very interesting topic i thought. I learned that octopuses are animals which are intelligent and very similar to humans as well as to there being 100 different species of octopuses also when an octopus puts its tentacles on you and it uses it's suction cups it is able to taste you with them. For the best essay i found the author was able to have very few grammatical errors and made the essay flow smoothly not making you stop to figure out in which direction he is trying to point you in. But for the poorly writen essays they need to have more grammatical corrections and also they would wonder off the topic talking about some other animal the octopus ate which i found quite annoying. So if i was to respond to this topic i would have to do more researching as well as to have a real experience or witness one to surly write a very discriptive and accurate essay on the topic.

Icey Patterson

The reason i picked to do Classic College Basketball rivarlies: Duke and North Carolina. One reason is because i play basketball and Duke is my favorite team. I learned from reading this article that there are several aspects that will make a very good rivalry. Also a rivalry will not exist if only one of the teams usually wins by a lot of points. I also learned that rivalries die because one or both of the teams become weaker, and the great rivalries are always on t.v. so fans can fuel the rivalry.
But i am pretty sure that the best rivarly in college basketball in Duke and North Carolina. At this game it was so many fans. The important fact is when these two teams play against eachother they don't disappoint the fans, and i think thats a great thing. And watching these two teams play against eachother it is great and also fun to watch.
This article was first because it gave alot of information and it talked about a lot of things than the other two articles, thats why i picked this article to read.

Kody Kuhn

I chose to write about Doberman Pinscher which is my favorite dog breed. I never knew how the Doberman got its name but now I do. The Dobermans name originates from a man in the 1800's named Louis Doberman. Louis was a tax collector and a night watchman so he decided to create a breed of dog that would be a great companion and protector. I didn't know the Doberman was part German Sheperd, German Pinscher, then later was crossed with Greyhound, Weimaraner, Black and Tan Manchester Terrier. That's how the great Doberman Pinscher breed was created. The best essay used legit information, and used correct grammar and punctuation. The lesser essays used more opinionated information, so you cant really know what is true or false about what they write. If I respond to this essay I would do some research on the breed and also I have personal experience on the breed because I use to have one. So I would combined my research and my personal experience to write a response and use truthful information and correct grammar.

The prompt that I reviewed was about pugs. I chose this topic because I have a pug. I love them. Seeing that I have a pug I already know some information about them. It was some information that I did not know that I learned while reading the essays. I learned that the first records of the pug were in China. The Buddhist monks in Tibet had them as pets. Pugs also became the official dog of the House of Orange after one saved the life of the Prince of Orange. In the essay that was ranked number one, the author used excellent grammar. The essay had a very good flow. The author talked about many topics that one would like to know about the pug. They started off with background information and worked their way up to other details about the dog. In other essays I observed that the essays did not contain as much information and the essay that was ranked number one. The author jumps into details about the dog without telling you any important information before hand. If I had to write about this topic I would first do research to find out the dogs background information. I would then break up the essay and talk about the different attributes of the breed. I think Pugs are the best breed in the world so it would not be hard for me to write about them.

Should the federal government set a national age for sexual consent for teens? (Karina)

I chose to read the prompt about the national age of consent for teens. The writer chose to say that there shouldn't be a limit because of the fact that we as teens are grown enough to make decisions for our selves. Even though there are sometimes where there should be a certain limit for the most part everyone is entitled to be happy with whom ever they choose to be happy with. In the lesser essays they really didn't emphasise the reason why they felt that it was ok they just said that there shouldn't be a problem and that's it. Others see this situation as its nasty and mortally wrong to be with someone way younger than you. Some would even say that it seems like you is being with your own child and that's wrong. The majority of people go about this and say "How would you feel if that was your child with that grown person?" If i were to write an essay on this I would speak more about the many controversies and show people that i understand what they are trying to say but that you cant choose who people want o be with. You are not God and that's I got to say about that.

Helium Jamara Cook

I chose to do my Helium article on how to find a playgroup for child. I chose this article because a lot of parents are worried about who there children are playing with, where they are, and are the children they're playing with is a good influence on them. Choosing the right play group will help them in their social life and help them pick better friends in the future. I learned from reading the articles that most parents look to churches as a good play group because not only for they get to have but, gets to be more involved in the church. The first article was rated number one because of all the rules and regulations and how they wanted the group their child to be with will benefit them. The lesser article was ranked last because it was more general. All the articles where good, but some were more involved then others.

The articles were written by: Ernest Udalla, Alison Fernandes, Kaarina St. John

Helium- Cheyanne Small

I recently read over a prompt that was called "How to teach children to cope with stress". This article was interesting to me because I find stress in kids becoming more of a problem everyday. Being an adult we have learned how to cope with stress and how to maintain a balance. We've learned this from being taught when we were a children. It all takes a matter of time and how to teach your child wrong from right. I think Jane Allyson is the best author who talks about how to teach children to cope with stress. I enjoyed the other articles but I thought this one to be more interesting and it gave more detail. If I were to to write about this topic I would say more about personal expierences so I would get the point across better.

Facebook :)

The prompt I chose to read is “Is Facebook Hazardous to Your Career?” I learned that I need to watch what I say and post on facebook because everyone can see it in one way or another and it could affect my career, or stop me from getting a job. In the best essay the author used correct grammar and punctuation. It also had a great flow and was easy to read and understand. In the other essays I noticed the punctuation was not all correct and the writer used incorrect grammar. I also noticed it wasn’t as clear and did not have as much information as the other articles.

Do home team s get the best call. By Jordan Lawrence

The prompt is do The home team gets the best calls from referees in a football game. I learn that in college bowl games that the referees seem to they would make more call s style they see a lot. He showed a lot of of facts to show his point. He didnt show no facts for his point. I would look up game as many can to see for my self show them when in how home team where getting the best calls.

Do you prefer dogs or cats?

In the website Helium I read about people’s preferences for cats or dogs. There were both answers but most of the authors preferred dogs. In all articles I read, the writers showed why they prefer that one and some people also wrote about their experience with both, cats and dogs. In the worst article I wrote, in my point of view, there wasn’t a clean idea about the topic. It seems to be confused about the ideas while the best one has its ideas organized. This is important so that who was reading could understand better his point of view. If I were to write about this topic I would say that I prefer dogs and write about my experience with them.

Me being a dog love and having my own Bernese Mt. dog at home, I has to write about this page after reading about it. I've had my dog, Hedi, for 14 years now, and with her years gone from years, to months, and now weeks or days, not a day goes by that I think one day my dad is going to call me and tell me she has passed away. I chose to write about this site because I have a Bernese Mt. dog, so reading information on them was quite interesting. The web page was well setup and lots of links to go to and read info on. I recommend this web page to people looking for a Bernese, so they know what to expect.

Taylor(What do you do?)

I recently read over a prompt that was called What do you do when you don't get along with your room mate? The thing that stuck out the most about reading this prompt was the fact that you should always say something. No matter how annoyed or mad you get do not hold it in you need to put it all out there in the open, in the best possible way. The best author would have to be Michelle Whalen. She knew everything about the whole situation. She made it simple to understand by putting all the ways to fix your room mate in sections and numbering them. The other two essays I read over were good but did not get into all the details like Michelle. If I was to write an essay about this i would have to use my friends as examples and how they worked things out with their room mate.

Helium- Lauren Blake Proffitt

I read three articles for the prompt simply titled Cat Breed: American Shorthair. I learned that this particular breed of cat used to be called the Domestic Shorthair because it was brought over on the Mayflower to reduce rodents on the boat. The author of the best rated article was very informative and to the point. She did not try to fill up space with useless, unrelated information but instead used her space wisely by giving more detail about the subject at hand. For the second lesser article the author must have thought that a longer essay meant a better essay. I have to admit that after the first few paragraphs I decided to skip a few and just get the direction of the essay. I feel that this article was made up of mostly fillers and opinions and not actual useful information. There were also a free misplaced comma's here and there but other than that I feel the mechanics were fine. As for the third essay, I feel that it did follow the prompt but it did not give near enough information. If I were to really want to understand this subject I would not look to this particular article for my information. It also had an awkward flow and ended very crudely. If I were to be writing for this prompt I would go about it in a smiler way as the rest did. I would give the history of the breed, it's description and any interesting facts. I would try to be as unopinionated about it as possible.

HELIUM 1 KWAME

http://www.helium.com/items/1422014-hip-hop-music

The Prompt I choose was called, "Assessing the current state of hip hop and rap artistry." This prompt was interesting because there has been an ongoing debate about the state of Hip Hop. Is the genre "dying" or is it "just on vacation". The Best Response was by Kiersten Brown. In her response she redefined what "Hip Hop" is by saying "Hip hop is a culture. A musical imitation of life. It is comprised of harmonizing beats and lyrics that are meant to move your soul and your body. Meant to uplift your mood, and change your way of thinking." The article goes on to explain types of hip hop artist to listen to that will take you away from the "Almost numbing and empty and often repetitive lyrics." Also she does talk about the more mainstream artists that may be the cause of the misinterpretation of Hip Hop by saying, "It's easy to flip on the radio and seep into the numbing lyrics and the thick vibrations of what is considered popular music. It's catchy and it gets the mind off of things. But unlike real hip hop music main stream is just a treatment, it isn't a remedy to what my heart and soul really needs"

Some of the lesser essay I read the problem with them were that they had a tendency to go on to a much more random subject and cause confusion in my mind.To correct this and have a much better response I would:

  1. explain to the reader what hip hop is and what effect it has on the world.
  2. Try to give example of what hip hop means to me
  3. But most important try to Stay ON THE TOPIC AT HAND

I stumbled upon this story which talks about a young boy who is suspended from school for wearing a pirate costume. It's very interesting because the boy claims that he has to wear the pirate outfit for his religion. I have never heard of the religion Pastafarian before now. My classmates would enjoy this for one because it's is stupid to suspended a little boy over wearing something different, and another is because I doubt other people have heard of this religion either. This page has many other sites that show similar stories. My only question would be what kind of religion is that?

This stumble was too cute. It is about a mouse who is caught by a leopard and then is not scared one bit. Instead the little mouse continues with his work and starts picking up scraps of what the leopard had already ate. My class mates will like it because it shows not to be scared of things that are bigger than you because they might just be scared of you. The sites are shared all over this page. My question would have to be how is the mouse so lucky?

This stumble was really interesting. I never thought about making art with an apple let alone bread. It is a very different style of art. Many of my classmates would propbably think the same as I, that it is truly unique. The sites for more different kinds of art are on the page as well. How could they make a butterfyl out of an apple?
