The Prompt I choose was called, "Assessing the current state of hip hop and rap artistry." This prompt was interesting because there has been an ongoing debate about the state of Hip Hop. Is the genre "dying" or is it "just on vacation". The Best Response was by Kiersten Brown. In her response she redefined what "Hip Hop" is by saying "Hip hop is a culture. A musical imitation of life. It is comprised of harmonizing beats and lyrics that are meant to move your soul and your body. Meant to uplift your mood, and change your way of thinking." The article goes on to explain types of hip hop artist to listen to that will take you away from the "Almost numbing and empty and often repetitive lyrics." Also she does talk about the more mainstream artists that may be the cause of the misinterpretation of Hip Hop by saying, "It's easy to flip on the radio and seep into the numbing lyrics and the thick vibrations of what is considered popular music. It's catchy and it gets the mind off of things. But unlike real hip hop music main stream is just a treatment, it isn't a remedy to what my heart and soul really needs"
Some of the lesser essay I read the problem with them were that they had a tendency to go on to a much more random subject and cause confusion in my mind.To correct this and have a much better response I would:
- explain to the reader what hip hop is and what effect it has on the world.
- Try to give example of what hip hop means to me
- But most important try to Stay ON THE TOPIC AT HAND
