Tea and weight loss: Fact or fiction?
Tea and weight loss: Fact or fiction is the helium topic that i chose to review. Depending on what kind of tea, tea can be good for you. Some Tea has no calories and one could lose weight when replacing drinks with calories to a tea that has no calories. Tea may not just make one lose weight, but over a time period he/she will lose from the less intake of calories. Green tea is the healthiest tea of most, majority of tea is good for you until the milk and sugar is added. Tea also has anti oxidants and anti cancer which are good reasons to drink it. I enjoyed doing this topic for the reason that i love tea and it was nice to know if tea was good or bad for me and how tea affects my health. The fact that tea is proven to decrease ones stress levels is a good thing because a great amount of us get stressed including myself. I believe that tea is better for you than most drinks, but it is not good for you because of all the sugar that is put into it. I personally like my tea cold and sweet. The sweeter the better. Tea that is decaffeinated is better than caffeinated tea so if one chooses to stop drinking soft drinks and start drinking tea than they should start to lose weight gradually over a period of time. I mostly agree with all the articles i have reviewed about tea and weigth loss. So if you like tea be smart about drinking it and don't make it unhealthy for yourself.

Should the government restrict exotic pet ownership?

Now there were mainly only 2 things to respond to in that it was a survey/blog where you would vote yes or no and then respond to it.
Where the people who said YES they should restrict the ownership of exotic pets they made good points in that exotic animals have their instincts and eventually can follow them. There are also a lot of people who go and buy a cute little tiger cub and feed it a stake every day but eventually they tiger is big. It needs bigger and better housing as well as more and more food. I have herd many of these stories having a mom as vet's office manager. I have also herd terrible stories of this beautiful big animals being neglected for the reason of them growing to big. There are believe it or not a hand full of big family run farms that are devoted to taking in these animals which is a big plus.
On the flip side i agree with the people who feel owning exotic animals is ok. it was mentioned that we live in the country we do. How it is a free country and the governments doesn't and shouldn't have the right to take that right away. Also being someone who loves exotic animals especially reptiles. i have owned a few in the form of a snake and 3 Chameleons that i loved and plan to own again they are the coolest animals. I plan to get myself a Albino Boa Sometime in the near future when I am out of the dorms.

Deciding between a Windows system and a GNU/Linux system.
Now I know that someone is going to be confused already, just by the title of the article. This is ok with me if you get confused by this since if you are confused already I already know what you are most likely using. This topic was interesting since I am used to both systems (I prefer Linux) and it was entertaining how uneducated some people are about lesser used operating systems.
The first article I read was the lowest rated, which got there for a reason. It had almost nothing I could find in the article that had to do with comparing/contrasting the two systems, also what little there was as far as information was not very well put together or accurate. This article made the assumption that you need to have decent programming skills to use Linux, this is not true. Using Linux you will have to use the Terminal (equivalent to Windows command prompt) but there are guides online for this part of Linux.
The next article I read was ranked about the middle. It was decent writing, but didn't show much interest on the topic. The information given was good and accurate, from my experience at least. It has reference to the limits of what Linux can do but also it hints at ways around these boundaries. Finally the top article had the best presentation of information, and also seemed the most unbiased on the topic. The writer knew the topic and even had a list for why to stay with Windows or move to Linux that was accurate in the reasons given.

How to raise a Pit Bull- Justin Katz
The reason Pit Bulls are used in dog fights is because they are so eager to please their owners. They were originally bred for bull baiting, which is a sport where 2 or 3 Pit Bulls attack a cow or bull until it dies. The author started with a broad range of dogs and then narrowed it down to Pit Bulls. The paper was also organized well in order of importance, without going off topic. The other essays were all over the place and not organized well. If I were to right an essay, I would first start with the origin of the breed. After I talk about the origin, I would go into the types of Pit Bulls as well as how to feed and train them.
The top ten essentials to bring to college- Will Chase
In this article I learned that the lost important things to bring to college is yourself. If you do this people will trust you more and respect you for not trying to conform. In the best essay the author answered the prompt the best by numbering the essentials and talking about each one in depth. In the worst article the author just talked about the material things you need for college instead of talking about the things you cant necessarily see or touch, like common sense, responsibility, and determination. I honestly think I would approach the prompt by just listing material things and not thinking outside the box.

People are always scared when it comes to having to rooming with a stranger. Now when you are brought up you are always told to stay away from strangers, but as you get older you learn that the only way to meet new people is to go talk to the stranger. Sure at first the person may seem weird and you may not like the same things that they do, but sooner or later the two of you start agree on things and accepting what the other thinks. The best way to get to know someone is to spend a large amount of time with them. Thats what makes having a roommate that is a complete stranger so much fun. while you are getting to know them they are getting to know you and you learn what life is like somewhere else.

when i stumbled upon this house and it told me it was located in whales, i was not supprised one bit. it looks like somthing you would definatly find there. its a very nature friendly house which is what i really like about it. build by 2 people and a couple of volunteers it seems it was extremly inexpensive to build. if i had the chance i would totally make a house like this. its a very cozy home. they also tell why they decided to live this natural life with only low technologies.

This is a photograph from space showing what the earth looks like at night. in this picture, it gives us a good idea of how much energy were using. although it may seem pretty neat at first. i honestly dont really like the deeper message behind it. Also, when you look at the picture you can see how most of our major cities are by the atlantic coast . but there are major city lights shining all over the U.S. and compared to other countries the U.S. is ridiculously brighter.

Did you know that sleeping disorders are becoming more and more prevalent in today's rush of everyday lives? Sleeping disorders vary from person to person in many different ways. Did you also know that there are over 100 types of sleeping disorders? Staying asleep, falling asleep, sleeping patterns and sleeping behaviors are small disorders that can be fixed or helped with easy steps. The top article or the first one that I read was very well supported and understood by me. I liked it alot and felt as though it had support for each of its ideas. It presented alot of sleeping disorders and what to do to treat them. The middle articles were mostly about personal experiences with sleeping disorders and the last articles were about sleeping disorders but were not supported with good ideas and branching off from just the first idea or article.

What to do if you can't get along with your roommate. I felt this article applies to each and everyone of us since being freshman we all are having to get acquainted to living with a roommate. In the first article I learned that maybe you don't get along with your roommate as much as you like but sometimes you just have to do it and suck it up. In the workforce you have to work with people who might not always see eye to eye with but everyone has their issues. Find ways to work through them and manage to compromise.
The second article I read on about getting along with your roommate was ranked 4th out of 9. I feel it was ranked in the middle because it wasn't a attention grabber. The article leads off with " The first instinct is to get away." It didn't strike an interest in me.
The third article i read did not catch my interest at all. I believe that is why it is ranked 9th out of 9. It is a dry article that I could not get intrigued into reading it. It is longer and does not clearly states its solutions.

The lesser essays did not explain varied suggestions, rather they listed consequences instead. If I were to approach this essay, I would give an example of the networking site, Facebook. For my blog on Helium. I reviewed a topic about the necessity of friendship. I learned that friendship truly is a very important part of your everyday life. Everyone need a special friend that they can talk to, and also have a close relationship with. The author with the best essay did some excellent research, and was very detail in her information that she give to us as reader.
The essay rated 2 out of 5 was not very interesting to me. It did not really keep my attention 100 percent. I thought it was too wordy, and did not get to the point. The last and worst essay did just the opposite as the first essay. It give less details about friendship which is what the topic is about. I don't think his research was good. If I had to write a prompt about this. I would just tell the reader my life experience with many friends, and how they have help me in life.

Success is to achieve your goals and your happiness. Success is to get great results on what you are working towards.
A lot of special characteristics are needed to achieve success. First of all, the person has to like or maybe love what he is doing because this way most of the others necessary characteristics will appear.
When you do love what you are doing you can dedicate more to this activity with pleasure, and this dedication and study will bring you more knowledge to work on your goal and great ideas will appear soon. The more knowledge you have, the more confidence you have. And the more confidence you have, the greater leader you are. So each good characteristic you have will bring you more success.
Leadership, nowadays, in my point of view, is the key for the success. Because if you are a leader, it infers that you have all mentioned characteristics that made you who you are. On the other hand, a leader has to know how to do teamwork and it is difficult stuff to find in a person’s personality. No one works alone in the world in which we live now. According to Dr. Michael Trenel, diabetes type II can be controlled with a regular walk. These regular walks will make the mitochondria more efficient and this way they will be better at burning fat. Burning more fat, the blood glucose level is going to be controlled.
Nowadays, unfortunately, a lot of people don’t have time to go to the gym and do some exercises. This way, they can find another way to do activities like walk somewhere at lunch time or get off the bus a few stops earlier. It all makes people healthier.
There are even some special foods that can lower blood sugar level. An example is the mineral Zinc that plays a role in the body’s production and storage of insulin. So if people with diabetes type II start doing a regular walk everyday and eating the kind of food that will help them control their blood glucose level, they can keep some of the effects of this disease controled without using additional drugs.

I read about how to attract members of the opposite sex. Most of the articles have the same opinions on what to do. I learned that self confidence is the biggest way to attract some one. Some just wrote it better and expressed them selves better then others. I think that for the most part the layout and structure was good. If I was to write an essay on this topic, I would approach it through personal experience. I think it would make a good topic to write about.

Fires In LA
I found this on stumbleupon, its not really an article, its more of just pictures from the fire in LA, but what is so moving about them are its real life caught in the moment. The fear in peoples faces. The firefighters doing their job. It just makes you stop and think that man, you never know what could happen. I would recommend it. i think its cited well.

Once you take a look at some of the pic's they took you will understand how awesom the pictures really are, they have great detail, and the pictures were took from many parts of the globe. I think other people would really like this page if they take inaccount how many hours or mabey mounths it would of taken to put all these together.

The prompt I read of the website helium was called ‘’what is your favourite beverage’’. For me my favourite beverage is water. However this is not the case for many of the authors off the helium website. I learnt that ice tea is not only a preferred choice over coca cola but it is a lot healthier. Ice Tea also contains enough caffeine for people who are looking for a substitute for coca cola but less of a syrupy sweetness and zero carbonation. If I were to write my own essay about my favourite beverage it would be sourly option based. I would state my favourite beverage and would back it up with supporting evidence. Such as. Water. Water is the most hydrating liquid and I like it because it helps to flush a colds or illnesses when you are sick.

For my blog I reviewed a topic about the etiquette for snowboarders and skiers. Seeing as I will be living in Banner Elk for the next 4 years, I have heard from more than a few people that there will be a fair bit of snow. I have always been fascinated by snowboarding and would love to be able to snowboard confidently.
I have snowboarded twice in my life, so still need a bit of practise!The article is helpful as it gives you basic tips, but ones you need to know. Simple things like not swinging on the chair lift is something I may not have thought of before, although this could be a really uncomfortable position for others. The main message from the topic is treat others how you would like to be treated on the slopes, and the experience will be a much nicer one for everyone. Movie Review – Gran Torino
Currently, my favorite movie is Gran Torino. I was curious to see if other people felt the same way about the movie as I did. It turns out that most people agree with my opinion. I learned from reading all three essays that there are many different ways to approach writing a movie review. The first review, that was rated the best, focused on the movie as a whole. Everything from the writing, directing, and actors performances are discussed. It tells its readers the movies story line but not giving away to much to ruin the ending. It also tells readers what to expect from the move. I believe that if someone where to read this review it would persuade them to take the time and watch Gran Torino.
The article rated eleventh out of twenty-two seem to over analyze the movie. I feel that the analyzing would loose a reader’s interest. I also feel that the writer is still a little unsure about how they feel about the movie themselves.
The lower rated articles seem to give away to much information about the movie its self; some even quoted Clint Eastwood’s character. The lowest rated article also seem to lose focus and begin to compare Clint Eastwood’s past roles to his role of Walt Kowalski in Gran Torino; clearly not having anything to do with one another.
If I where to write a review on Gran Torino, I would focus on the movie as a piece of art. All of the small details that where put in place to make the film feel like it is happening in your own neighborhood. Grand Torino is defiantly not an action pack violent film, but it will make you think about how you treat others and what you can do to help stop gang violence.

For my blog I chose the topic of the scientific studies on the healing power of dogs. I always knew that dogs had some healing effects on people and could make people feel better. But I never knew that they could do it to such extreme levels as these articles showed me. The best article definitely earned its spot at number one. You could tell just by reading it that the author took a great deal of time to sit and do her research. They had many facts about dogs being the new "diagnoses" in the medical world. The author had many references to different places where dogs were being used to help people with diseases such as Alzheimer's, different cases of cancer, diabetes, and many other illnesses. They also included many dog puns which kept me interested and smiling. The worst essay was pretty off topic. The author of this one pretty much talked about molesters, abusers, and other criminals and how they had hurt animals in the past. Also she talked more about what different types of helping dogs there were rather than what they sere doing for the people. I think that she could have been a little more specific in her essay. I also think that she may have needed to do some more research and not get off topic as much as she did. She went from talking about criminals to disabled people. She needs to focus on one or the other. The middle essay I read was okay. It focused more on the past than on the present. They had supporting facts in their essay and had all the right material. I just think that they could have used some more research and used a variety of illnesses like the author of the first essay did. Though it may be beneficial to speak also of the past, I think that it's better to focus on the now.

The first part of my blog is in reference to the the blog title. I however did not "Stumble Upon" this. This is a video that I recorded recently. The title, "I am a creator" refers to my passion for the Arts, particularly Performing Arts. I love to create. I enjoy choreographing dance. DNA at home
What interested me about this page was the fact that you could extract DNA from your body at home and see it in person with out any high dollar devices, just simple house hold objects were needed. I would recommend it to a classmate because it seems like an interesting, simple concept.

Such as where do you live, how active are you, can you financially support a dog/puppy. Getting a dog or puppy is big decision that takes a lot of thought, and should not be rushed through. The last place essay was more of a story about themselves than the facts needed to make the decision on whether to get a dog or puppy. The middle essay was pretty clear cut; it gave you the pros and the cons of both a dog and a puppy. Books normally cost around $10, so you are saving a lot of money by choosing to read them online. The authors vary from Jane Austen to George Orwell, and the books vary from The Invisible Man to Pride and Prejudice. You could argue against the idea of reading books online by claiming it is not as relaxing as kicking your feet up and reading away. Also, many people read books for hours, but staring at a computor screen for hours may cause certain people discomfort. All in all, I really like this idea and may use this website in the future.

The prompt I read from helium was one that, at this point in my life I can relate to significantly. College dorm room luxuries; what we need to make it in college, our home away from home. Mainly the articles I read talked about materialistic things such as, a computer, microwave, mini fridge, cell phone, decorations, etc. Although this all is very helpful and luxurious in college it is not necessarily all the luxuries that we need. For me these are considered luxuries; however there are some others. Some others that I would include are a good roommate. Good roommates are a necessity in college you need to have someone to, have your back, look out for you, and know when the homework is due. Some memorable things would also be considered luxurious, the favorite picture of your family, your favorite sent of shampoo and even the smell of your clothes fresh from the dryer. College dorm rooms can be very hard to find a homey place to live, but with the luxuries (objects and memories) that you have at your real home it is very likely one could recreate them in their college dorm room.

Helium Blog 1 - Emily Jones
For my first Helium Blog I read about which actor, Johnny Depp or Gene Wilder, portrayed the character Willy Wonka better in the movies "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". I learned quite a bit about the writing style of Gene Wilder, and how different people have different opinions on the same aspect of the movie. Depending on which actor the authors of the blogs preferred, they would either like or dislike the aspect of Johnny Depp being a little more dark and mysterious. This was also true for Gene Wilder's depiction of being so warm hearted and caring. The best essay I thought was by Rebecca Miller, who liked Johnny Depp's character more. She used plenty of examples in her Blog about Gene Wilder's other books and the genres of these to help examine what Gene wanted out of the character. She recalled a video clip that she had seen with Gene's daughter to also give insight on to what she thought the characters main role was. A little lesser rated article was about Gene's character being warm and fuzzy and a good depiction for a children's book. This essay was also very short and did not give any examples of further research on the topic which made it rather boring to read. I would approach the essay in a similar fashion to that of Rebecca Miller, she had actual insight into the mind of the writer. Even if I did not agree with her opinion in choice of character, I think I would try to research why Gene Wilder was chosen for that role prior to writing my essay about the topic.

During my research I saw this awesome picture. I'm not exactly an animal lover, I never even had a pet, but I like this picture I would prefer to run directly to the pet store and buy a cat or something else. It’s wonderful to see that this guy can educate this dangerous-looking animal and also become friends with this animal. It really touched my heart.
