After looking through some of my classmates blogs I found that the most enjoyable blogs were the ones with pictures. It was really interesting to see how many different topics have been blogged about throughout the past few weeks from Micheal Phelps diet to a map of the world. One of the most interesting pictures I saw was one of Neil Armstrong on the moon taking his first step and Kayne West is photo shopped in with a caption about how great it was he was on the moon but Russia still had a better space program. This was just a joke about how he interrupted Taylor Swift and the VMA's a couple weeks ago. I thought it was funny that students are even blogging about this for class.
Stumble is a great tool to use for a pre-write, because it allows you to see topics related to the topic you want to potentially use. It is similar to the idea of bubble mapping, by using stumble it will give you the ideas and sources that you can potentially use for a paper. This can often lead you to want to use an entirely different topic from he one you started with. I could not think of something to write my cause and effect essay on but using stumble I have come up with a few ideas, the effects of saving energy, the causes of obesity, the effects of people to the earth among many others. By looking through sites i could determine if i knew the some of the causes or effects of what was displayed and could be interested in writing about it, a very easy way to come up with ideas for this particular paper.
When exploring my classmates Helium's I realized they mostly had the same opinions as I do when it comes to how essays are both good and bad on this website. The good essays often have a direct point from the start of their essay and give examples of facts or personal experience to back them up to make their own arguments. For the bad essays they do not elaborate or use as much examples and often have many grammatical errors. Many of these essays could also have some of the very opposite effects and have run on sentences and not use the format of paragraphs for their blog which make it confusing for the reader.
Using blogging as a practice for writing about different topics twice to three times a week I feel is a great way to evolve our writing. Not only do you get to write about whatever you find interesting, which makes doing these homework assignments that much more fun. It keeps us writing in between essays and focuses on examining others writing, especially on helium with the good and bad essays we must read and then describe the right and wrong approaches to these. I believe it has really helped me become a better writer and notice a variety of things to write about for now and in the future.
