One of the blogs that I read as I was getting ready to do this “Best of the blogs” post was one that was written by Bradley King. It was a Helium post that was called “Is Facebook hazardous to your career? As I was reading through this one I found it interesting because most of everybody is on one of the famous social networks be it Twitter; MySpace, or Facebook. Thousands of people use these networks for personal, business or just as ways to meet new people. I know from personal experience that these sites are very hazardous because I’ve been caught is some very troublesome situation that have been “seen or heard on Facebook, being that my mother, father, & aunts and other family members all have Facebooks. Another thing I like about this blog was that he kept it short and to the point. He caught the audience’s attention from the start. By stating the title in the beginning, the reader already could understand what was to come. Also He used the main points that he read from the essays, with just adding the right amount of details to support them. There is a part in the writing where he states that there are different kinds of privacy setting which allow users a better way to “hide” or protect themselves. At the end Bradley states way that he himself would start off an essay using this prompt. I found this interesting because I have a hard time starting my paper because I can’t think of main issues to address. He stated that he would first let the readers know that these sites can be hazardous. By doing this it would get the point across right away to get the attention of my readers. After reading this, I found that reading this prompt could lead to some more topics that could be used to write a paper. One topic could be what effect do social networks have on society or maybe comparing two or more social networks and how they are different. By doing one of these types paper it could be helpful to parents how don’t not allow their children to have account on sites like this and maybe persuade them to change their minds.
I found that doing blog dealing with Helium and Stumble are helpful because it allows the writer to get out of the regular writing environment, and find different ideas. Stumble for instance takes a lot thing that you wouldn’t normally find while surfing the net. This could be helpful to the pre-writing process because it allows your mind to wonder or “stumble” around to find ideas. With Helium, it’s different because it could show you the good & bad ways to write a paper. With this it could be helpful because it shows what key ideas like getting the reader’s attention, having good supporting details that go along with your main topics.
