I found these pictures of these different items made from books to be a pretty amazing sight. I know that I have a lot of books just sitting around in my garage and I never would have thought to turn them into a chair that people could use. i would recommend this article to a classmate because it is creative and will put a smile on anyone face. I was just absolutly amazed at these pictures, of all these impartant people and works of art. That someone thought of doing art on the back of a dirty car, even though that when it rains their art piece would be washed away. I think that any of my classmates would enjoy looking at these pictures. I also think that it is very creative and inovative to do something like. This website about the cats is so funny I could hardly contain myself. Some of the pictures are funny while others are just plain cute. So there is a little something for everyone to enjoy, that is why I would recommend this website to many of my classmates. I picked this page to be my first link in this blog because the photo manipulation is very well done but also somewhat abstract. I would recommend this to anyone that is interested in photography or graphic design, since these photos were done by very experienced people. I didn't notice any cited authors on the page. I would look into this topic more if I had photoshop to actually be able to make an attempt at this.

The first web page that I came across while stumbling was http://www.breathingearth.net/. It is a really interesting website that shows a map of the world and allows you to scroll your mouse over most countries in the world and it displays the current population of the country, the death rate and the birth rate. For example, The United States had a population of 305,913,313 and a death every 12.6 seconds and a person born each 7.3 seconds. The site also shows the current world population and also how many people have been born or died since you have been viewing the web page. I recommend this site because it is really neat to see the stats on each country and exactly how many people have been born and died. The sources for the site our pretty well cited and i do not have any questions about the site it just begins to make you wonder about the population in the world.

It shows a picture of a small dirt road in the middle of an old field that looks like it was used for growing crops. There is a red SUV in the middle of the road and in the middle of the screen is a large sand storm tornado amongst white clouds with a storm in the background. It is really interesting because it is clearly visible that it is a stand storm. I recommend this picture because it is appealing and very quick to understand what is going on and what it would be like to live in the Midwest where storms like this are likely. The source is sited as National Geographic, and that is all.
The third web page i stumbled upon is called I Do Dog Tricks http://www.idodogtricks.com/index_flash.html The page pops up with a picture of a small Yorkshire Terrier dog that has a box that allows you to write in a command for the dog to perform. It only does common dog tricks however; tricks like bark, roll over, play dead, jump, dance. I recommend this site because it was interesting to fin new tricks that dog would complete on command, it was like have your own virtual dog without having to spend the hours training your dog. The sources are not very visible in this website but does have links to how to protect your pets which is what is being advertised.

I stumbled across this article talking about David Shepherd and Travis Price, two boys trying to make a difference over bullying. This article came interesting, I've read stories over the years about how people are getting bullied at school and the outcome is never good. To read this story and know that these two young men took it upon themselves to help stop a bad outcome is awesome! I recommend my classmates to read this article to get the word out there about bullying. This article posted a few sources about similar stories. I would like to know how we can make bullying stop.
I stumbled across this article and found it interesting. You read this article to find out that a man that lost his sight while at work finally gets the chance to get his sight back. It became interesting to me to find that after over a decade a guy got a chance to regain his eye sight. I think my classmates will find this interesting but only if they like stories with a good ending. This article only has one source. I wonder if this will take medicine to a new level?
I came across this article saying that depending on the music or genre you listen determines your score on the SAT's. I found this interesting because like all of us we all had to take the SAT's or ACT's. To find out that music had somthing to do with what I scored it made me want ot read further. I would think my classmates would find this interesting because this could be an excuse for why you scored what you did. There were no other sources for me to follow to actually see if this could be possible. I wonder could music really put you in a category?

MAKING YOUR OWN LOW BUDGET HORROR!
This website was interesting to me because I love horror movies and learning behind the scenes about them. The Picture was what caught my attention. I decided to keep reading. The basic idea of this article is teaching you how to make bloody, gorry fake human parts. The only way that I would recommend this website to another classmate would be if they liked horror films too. If you don't like horror films, please don't read this. It's gross and it makes you feel like you really are watching a horrow film. It's also not sourced very well. They only have one more source you can go to and that is zonehorrortv.com. One question about this article that I would have is how much time does it take for a horror film to come together?
This website focused on the positive outcomes of a four day, ten hour work day. It showed that energy costs, fuel emmisions and operational costs were lowered in effect to this new deal. I think it would also help with more pleasant people and rested people as well. I would recommend this website to anyone because bossess need to read this especially if it is a 5 day business. it has plenty of positive outcomes to it. It was very well sourced. It included about 5 more sources and websites that you could go to in order to find out more about the effects of four day, 10 hour workdays. The only question I have is I want to know more outcomes of this idea.
I chose this article about yoga because I just changed one of my classes to yoga at school. I am interested in learning more about the different types of yoga positions that go with each. I did not know that there were so many different types of yoga. I knew that there were many different positions you can get into. If you are taking a yoga class anywhere, whether it be at school or not, I recommend this article. If you have no clue what type of yoga class you are in, this article will help you determine what type you are enrolled in. Today I read a poem that talks about how young children want to grow up faster then there time. I think the poem is right.As a child I wanted to grow up , and be an adult because being an adult seemed so much funner then being a kid , and there were more things to do as you got older. As a child I didn't understand that as you get older you have more responsibilities. Or as you you get older you have more things to stress about and worry about because of life. Another thing I realized by reading this poem was that a lot of things change as you get older , like the people you hang around , whether or whether not you choose to allow peer pressure to affect you. All in all I've realized growing up has its ups and downs , and it just depends how you manage yourself and your life. Although growing up isn't the most exciting thing to do it has be done , so you should just make the best out of it.
Life is to short to be anything but happy. I agree with that statement entirely. There are some things in life that you have control over but most matters you can't control. The things that you can control are normally the most stressful for some reason. Sometimes as a person you have to learn to sit on the sidelines and let life happen to you. Having a nonchalant attitude works sometimes especially when there are things you can't manage solely under you control.
Given the physical characteristics of the " Common Suspect " , our bias generally lean toward the media. I did an activity where I had to choose the criminal that committed a particular crime.I noticed that in trying to choose the culprit that stereotyping was a big part of my decisions.Prior to doing that exercise I wasn't aware of how much stereotyping can play a part in the choices people make.If the activity asked for someone that does crack I looked for a thinner person who appeared to be strung out. Now that I am thinking about it the more and more confused I become , Was I stereotyping or making an attempt to criminal profile?

Gingerbread man-Bradley King
I stumbled across this site that has t-shirt designs of many everyday things. I stoped and lookedat the one with the Gingerbread man. Well we all know the story of the Gingerbread man! You know the old woman and the old man were hungry so the old woman decided to make a gingerbread man, not knowing that when she opened the oven the Gingerbread Man would jump out and start running from her! And in the end of the story everyone know that the Gingerbread man would get help crossing a river by a fox that he thought was nice, but the fox ended up eating him. But this picture to the left shows that maybe the fox didn't eat him, just maybe the fox kept him hostage lol. Well I was interested in this picture because it takes you back to your childhood, when you went to school and had stories told to you everyday. I would recommend to view this page when you just need a laugh, or just need to spend a moment in your childhood when things start getting hard at school. The sources were sitting very well on this page by having the website posted on all the pictures in the top right corner. There are not really any questions I could ask about this article, beside would you wear this shirt, Because I know I would Haha!
Real art
One of my favorite things of all time is art. So ofcourse I would stop and look into a website with only a picture of Van Gogh's Starry Night. At first I saw this and thought to myself oh look that's nice they have a maganfying glass to study the color and brush strokes a little better. I being a persuing artist myslef I took ahold of this opurtunity to study such a famous masterpiece. Upon getting closer I saw what I though were pixles and for fun I decided to see how close I would get before it got rediculously pixilated. Closer examinattion proved that these "pixles" were photographs of nature and life. This masterpiece had been turned into something I consider even better. A beautiful and universally recognized collage of life. I thought to myslef what an amazing way to show that everday life is the most beautiful art works of all time. I recomend this sight because it is truely awe inspiring to comtemplate the wonders of life. There were no citations for this site because it is a one of a kind.
What do cats really think about?
Every day when you come home from school, normally your dog is there to greet you. A wagging tail, lots of licking and kisses. But for me when I got home from school, my cat was who greeted me. My cat was my life and I think I was her life as well. But here's something have you ever wondered what your cat was thinking. Well after reading this map of my cats brain, all of my questions have been answered. That's why this picture caught my attention, I've always wondered, now I know that this really isn't whats in my cats head, but it was humorous. I can't really say whom I'd recommend this to because it's just something you come across and have fun reading it.

Cause your wrong, MINI has announced the new 50th anniversary coupe. this new car can travel as fast as a new sports car, though this car is not available in the US, people hope to get one here soon.

the cats meow
This page I stumbled, did not have much writing but, but the title said it all for me, "13 Cute Wild Cats". This really touched me in a way i can't describe, see I'm an animal love and animal rights activist. To see that wild and endangered large cat, kittens were born, is one of the most happiest things ever. I would recommend this page to anyone who loves animals as much as I do, and like to see that endangered animals are being born. About the site, it was very well planned out and I also found out from the site they have a dog web site also. In perspective
I ran across this on StumbleUpon. It really puts things into perspective for me. I've always known that the earth is small but I never was able to see a model that made it clear untill now. It is amazing to me that there are things that large in the universe and that they are so far away that despite their vast size we cannot see them with our naked eye. Do you know how big that means the universe has to be? I've always been told it has no end but now I see that infinity is a very large thing. This means that I am a very small thing. It makes me wonder, that with all of the stuff going on in the world, what difference can I make. Even if I try to the best of my abilities I will not be able to make that big of a difference in the world. But the point is, I will make a difference. Just by existing, i make a difference. I read a book by Jonathan Safran Foer by the name of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. There is a part in the book where a young boy questions his dead father's purpose in life. He speaks of dropping from a helicopter in the middle of the Sahara desert and taking a pair of tweezers and picking up one grain of sand and moving it ten centimeters. He asks what difference would it make. He then realizes that it made all of the difference in the world. He changed the Sahara desert. No one would ever notice or care. he would never win an award for what he did but he did make a difference. If it weren't for him the Sahara desert would never be that way he had made it. My point is that no matter how small and insignificant something may seem, it never is.
I would recommend this site because it gives the viewer something important to ponder over. I didn't find any sources on the page so it must be an original idea or someone didn't give credit where it is due. My question is, is there another planet or star yet to be discovered that would dwarf even Antares.

The Ballerina Gallery is a great resource for anyone who is interesting in the ballet and all of the lovely ladies that helped make the ballet world what it is today. The website list names of famous ballerinas. Each name is a link that takes you to a short bio of the dancer and a few pictures. I have found when researching ballet it can sometimes be very difficult to find information on some of the older dancers, with this website it will no longer be a problem. As a dancer I also feel that is important to know your dance history and appreciate those who came before you. I defiantly recommend this website to anyone. For dancers, you can explore names you have heard of but maybe never seen their faces and for non-dancers it is a great way expose yourself to the art and form an opinion about it. The information and pictures on the website are copyrighted; if you wanted to use any information from the website the creator gives their contact information so you can get give credit where credit is due. I do wonder why the website does not include male ballet dancers on their site. In most countries male dancers are treated like movie stars and they have greatly influenced the ballet world as well. I also wonder why the site does not include links to videos of the dancer per forming. But over all this is a great resource.

This is a great site for everyone to glance over to see if they are currently eating these foods or if they can begin to incorporate them into their diet. The article does not list who wrote it or where it came from. The list seems to be accurate, but I would like to know who determined that these foods where so healthy. I would also like to know a few easy recipes that include the foods on the list.

This is an amazing idea! This website allows you to upload a picture and they will create any size poster out of it and its free! All you do is upload a picture, block it out the way you would like it, and print it. This is really great of college dorms, a kids room, or just to create a piece of artwork. I do wonder why the website does not charge for its serves and why they do not offer an option where you can pay to have the picture sent off and be printed professional. Never the less, I think this is a great cheap way to create new art for your walls. When creating a poster, you would just need to be careful about who owns the rights to the photo and make sure that you have permission to print it.I am making one for my dorm right now!

Welcome!
Dear Students,
It is exciting to begin a new year with new faces and new goals! Though there are several sections of College Writing, this is where all students of the course will unite to explore ideas and thoughts for writing. My hope is that this blog will continue beyond your time in the class and that the experience will create such a community as to bring you back to talk to College Writing students when you are an alumni of the college! These are lofty goals, but I hope each of you will help me reach them.
For a successful experience on this multi-authored blog (there are about 80 of you, afterall), I need to set up some basic rules for each of the blog types in response to: 1. StumbleUpon, 2. Helium, or 3. Journal articles.
1. StumbleUpon
Once you are set up with StumbleUpon, you will write a blog post approximately once a week for three web pages that you "stumble." My requirements for this is that you review three web pages each week. For each web page, I am requiring : 1 . the URL link to the web page. 2. what was interesting and new to you about this page?, 3. why would you recommend a classmate view this page?, 4. how well are sources cited on this web page?, and 5. after viewing the web page, what is a question about the topic? For each week, make sure to 1. include an image from one of your web pages and 2. talk about further research you may have done to learn more about a topic of interest. While you are free to talk about various topics, for the entire semester you are to review every disciplinary area of the Lees-McRae College Core Curriculum.

What prompt did you review?, 2. What did you learn about the prompt topic in reading?, 3. For the best essays, how did the author use writing elements to best answer the prompt?, 4. For the lesser essays, what were some of the mistakes you observed?, 5. How would you approach the prompt if you were to write an essay in response? (Consider the most severe mistakes, rather than tiny grammatical mistakes). Again, please be varied in the topics you choose in order to maximize the benefit of your blog for your readers and yourself.
3. Journal Articles
I will introduce you to a variety of ways to access peer-reviewed journal articles. Disciplinary journals are the publications of scholars, like your professors and other people who do research for a living. For each week a journal article review is due on blogger.com, I will ask that you choose an article from a topic of great interest to you (you don't have to address the entire core curriculum for this blog type). In your blog review, I require: 1. What is your article named and how did you access it?, 2. What was the topic and what new ideas did you discover about it, while reading the article?, 3. What support did the author offer to back up his/her ideas?, 4. What did you think about the author's style and writing ability? (Were ideas communicated clearly? How so or how not? Consider the writing elements we have addressed in class), and 5. If you were writing a paper about this topic, how would you use this article? Would you recommend its use as a reference?
Be sure to look at others' blogs as well, in addition to writing your own. Doing this as you go is important, even though I will focus our blogging upon this later in the semester as well. Most importantly, enjoy this learning experience! I am quite a believer in the act of simultaneous learning and entertainment. Also, please feel free to blog as a way to gain help from members of College Writing or just to vent frustrations. I will remove posts that are inappropriate and/or offensive. I just ask that you keep it clean and keep it friendly, folks!
It is exciting to begin a new year with new faces and new goals! Though there are several sections of College Writing, this is where all students of the course will unite to explore ideas and thoughts for writing. My hope is that this blog will continue beyond your time in the class and that the experience will create such a community as to bring you back to talk to College Writing students when you are an alumni of the college! These are lofty goals, but I hope each of you will help me reach them.
For a successful experience on this multi-authored blog (there are about 80 of you, afterall), I need to set up some basic rules for each of the blog types in response to: 1. StumbleUpon, 2. Helium, or 3. Journal articles.
1. StumbleUpon
Once you are set up with StumbleUpon, you will write a blog post approximately once a week for three web pages that you "stumble." My requirements for this is that you review three web pages each week. For each web page, I am requiring : 1 . the URL link to the web page. 2. what was interesting and new to you about this page?, 3. why would you recommend a classmate view this page?, 4. how well are sources cited on this web page?, and 5. after viewing the web page, what is a question about the topic? For each week, make sure to 1. include an image from one of your web pages and 2. talk about further research you may have done to learn more about a topic of interest. While you are free to talk about various topics, for the entire semester you are to review every disciplinary area of the Lees-McRae College Core Curriculum.
2. Helium.com
For Helium, I want you to choose a prompt from the website and review the spectrum of essays written on that topic. You should read the essays that are rated best, for sure. Also, read essays that are rated in the middle of the spectrum, as well as the worst of the essays. In your blog about the essays, I require you to answer the following: 1.
